Motivation plays a big part when knocking on doors, you have to motivate yourself to see the people. The more people you see the more sales you make.

One of the most important things is to remember to set goals. Every one has dreams but not everyone has goals. The difference between a dream and a goals is, a goal has a date or deadline. A goal without a date is just a dream.

Setting Goals

You should aim to set three goals.
A short term goal, mid term goal, and a long term goal.

Each goal should be written down on a piece of paper, and include a date, this gives you something to work towards. You should keep your goals in a safe place but make sure itís an easily accessible place not at the bottom of a junk draw.

Make sure your goals are specific they should have a start date, what you want to achieve, and an end date. They should be challenging but achievable. If you set your goals too high you will never reach them.

When deciding what to set your goals at look at what you want to achieve and when, then write a detailed plan of how you are going to achieve your goal. Goals should be broken down into steps, this way as you go from step to step you can see yourself getting closer and closer to your goal. This can be motivating as you are easily able to monitor your success.

Example Goals

Short Term Goal:

I am going to cover ___________ Territory today
and talk to eighty people.

Start date : Today
End date : Today

Mid Term Goal:

I am going to save ______ amount of money this month

Start date : Jan 01
End date : Jan 31

Long Term Goal:

I am going to expand my business to double my profits this year

Start date : Jan 01
End date : Dec 31

Positivity also plays a key role in staying motivated while knocking on doors. (Remember if they arenít smiling they arenít buying) It is your job to make people smile. If you are not smiling they wonít be smiling either.

Always look at the positives not the negatives. See the glass half full not half empty! There is always a positive side to every situation, you must find it!

There are lots of ways to stay positive, for one, never stop learning. Read the newspaper, but only the positive articles, look for the success stories. Read motivational books, watch motivational movies. One of my favourites is ďForest GumpĒ.

If you work with someone be positive and motivate them as this is one of the best ways to motivate yourself. In order to motivate others you have to be positive and motivate yourself. Find something that makes you happy and exploit it! Appreciate the things you have in life, as there is always someone out there that is less fortunate than you and wishes they had what you have.
